Festival Ready: Hair Routine and Look Tips from Hairstylist Andy Uffels

Festival Ready: Haar routine en look tips van haarstylist Andy Uffels

Whether you're going to a music festival or another event, you want to look your best. That's why today we're sharing our founder Andy Uffels' hair routine and styling tips.

Linda (interviewer) Hi, I'm Linda and a fellow hairstylist at The Insiders and part of the co-creation team. This time I get to interview Andy for the blog.

Hey Andy, thanks for taking the time to chat with us! With festival season just around the corner, we’re excited to hear your tips and favorite looks. What are your first thoughts on prepping your hair for a festival?

Andy: Thank you! Festivals are always a fun time of year, but they can also be challenging for your hair. Whether you’re dancing in the sun or standing in the rain, your hair has to endure a lot. The most important thing is to have a routine that protects your hair while keeping it looking great.

Linda: That sounds like a good start. Where should we start?

Andy: It all starts with the basics: good care and protection. Before you even think about styling, it is essential to keep your hair well hydrated and nourished. I recommend using a deep nourishing hair mask at least a week before the festival. This helps to strengthen your hair from the inside out and prepare it for a few days of not washing, styling, braiding etc.

Interviewer: That makes sense. What is the next step in preparation?

Andy: The next step is protection. Festivals often mean a lot of time outside, so UV protection is crucial. Use a leave-in spray with UV protection to protect your hair from the sun. We always recommend the My Hero Wonder Spray . It is a multi-functional product and gives the maximum protection. It prevents drying out and also color fading. If your hair is colored, this is even more important.

Linda: OK, what about the styling itself? What are your favorite looks for festivals?

Andy: For festivals I love looks that are effortless but still stylish. One of my favorites is the boho braid. It’s simple, looks really easy and relaxed and keeps your hair out of your face while you dance. Start with slightly wavy hair, create a loose braid and gently pull the strands to give it a messy, voluminous look.

Linda: That sounds gorgeous! Are there any other looks you would recommend?

Andy Uffels: Yep, definitely! Another favorite is the half-up half-down look. It’s versatile and works well for both short and long hairstyles. You can put a section of your hair up in a bun or braid, and leave the rest down. It’s perfect for a day of dancing and moving, because it still looks good at the end of the day.

Linda: What are your tips for maintaining these looks throughout the day?

Andy: Good products are essential. Use a strong but flexible hairspray to keep your look in place without making it stiff. Dry shampoo is also a lifesaver. It keeps your hair fresh and adds volume if you find your hair is getting a little flat from all the dancing and sweating. Dry shampoo in particular works wonders. So always bring our best seller, the Hustler Dry Shampoo .

Linda: How important is it to use the right tools?

Andy: The right tools can make a world of difference. Use a good brush that is gentle on your hair and prevents tangles. For braids and intricate looks, a tail comb can be handy for precise sectioning. You can also take them with you to a festival. And don’t forget to use a heat protectant when using tools like curling irons or flat irons.

Linda: Do you have any final tips for our readers preparing for the festival season?

Andy: Yeah, don’t forget to get creative! Festivals are the perfect opportunity to try something new and step outside your comfort zone. Add accessories like chopsticks, hair clips or colorful scarves. They can transform a simple look into something special. And finally, don’t just hydrate your hair, hydrate yourself J. Drink lots of water and use a good moisturizer on your face and body. And of course, have lots of fun.

Linda: So much fun interviewing you. Thanks for all your great tips! We can't wait to try your festival looks.

Andy: My pleasure! I wish everyone a fantastic festival season with beautiful and creative hair!
