Getting healthy and beautiful hair doesn't happen overnight , is what people sometimes say. But we disagree. With our six tips, you can make sure your hair stays healthy and beautiful while you sleep.
SLEEP WITH YOUR HAIR TIED UP
You can’t prevent movement in your sleep. What you can prevent is damage to your hair. If you toss and turn in your sleep, friction occurs between your hair and your pillow, which damages your hair, can break it off, and can get tangled. Wearing your hair up reduces friction and therefore damage to your hair . Wear it in a bun on top of your head or in a braid if you want to wake up with beautiful, natural waves.
Bonus: Sleeping with your hair up is also better for your skin. This will reduce the number of pimples because your face is not exposed to the oils in your hair while you sleep.
…BUT DON'T MAKE IT TOO TIGHT
Tying your hair up too tightly is not only uncomfortable, it is also bad for your hair. Especially if your hair is tied up tight for a long time, such as when sleeping. If your hair is tied up too tightly, there is a lot of tension and the hair is pulled, which can cause it to fall out . This is called traction alopecia.
Also use a soft, preferably satin, scrunchie instead of a regular hair tie. This puts less pressure and friction on your hair, which means you damage your hair less.
NEVER SLEEP WITH WET HAIR
Wet hair = fragile hair. So if you go to sleep with wet hair, you will damage your hair while tossing and turning . And of course you don't want that. So never go to sleep with wet hair. An exception to this is the use of a hair mask that you apply to towel-dried hair. If you have very damaged hair, it is good for your hair to leave a nourishing hair mask (such as the Bond Therapy Weekly Treatment ) on overnight . Apply the mask, make a loose bun or braid in your hair and go to sleep. The next morning you rinse the mask out et voilà : your hair has received a significant health boost!
USE A SATIN PILLOWCASE
Friction is a major culprit when sleeping. Friction can damage, break and stiffen your hair because it loses moisture. So say goodbye to your cotton pillowcase and buy a satin pillowcase. The fibers of a satin pillowcase are much less coarse, which means there will be less friction . And where cotton absorbs the natural oils of your hair and therefore dries it out, satin does not. In addition, sleeping on satin ensures that your hair (and skin!) becomes greasy less quickly. Because satin is better at regulating temperature, your scalp becomes less warm. This stimulates sebum production less and your hair becomes greasy less quickly. A real game changer !
CHANGE YOUR PILLOWCASE REGULARLY
We can think of several reasons why you should change your pillowcase regularly. Your hair is one of them. The sebum, skin flakes and sweat that you lose during the night ends up on your pillowcase. If you sleep on it again the next night, it ends up in your hair. This can make your hair greasy faster and you don't want that.
QUICK FIX FOR WHEN YOU WALK UP WITH STIFF HAIR FULL OF TANGLES
Of course, you can't always take your satin pillowcase with you and you'll probably forget to tie your hair up, just like you forget to remove your makeup before going to bed. So, did you wake up with a stiff, tangled head? Then use the My Hero Wonder Spray . This leave-in spray contains aloe vera and jojoba oil, among other things, which makes your hair wonderfully soft and hydrated in no time and you can easily comb out the tangles.
